A Review of the Results from Laboratory Tests of Some Rodenticides against Eight Rodent Species
نویسنده
چکیده
The susceptibility of eight rodent species to a range of widely used and candidate rodenticides was determined in laboratory feeding tests. No choice and choice tests were used to assess toxicity and effect on palatability of the rodenticides to Meriones shawi (Shaw's gerbil), Arvicanthis niloticus (Nile rat), Acomys cahirinus (Egyptian Spiny mouse), Mastomys natalensis (Multimammate rat), Sigmodon hispidus (Cotton rat), Rattus exulans (Polynesian rat), and R. rattus (Ship rat) which responded differently to each chemical. The results of these tests suggest possible rodenticides suitable for control of each species. Field trials are now needed to assess the effectiveness of these compounds under practical conditions. Resistance to the Second-generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides
The second-generation anticoagulants, difenacoum, bromadiolone and brodifacoum, have taken over a considerable part of the rodenticidal market during the last six to eight years. This is partly due to the higher efficiency against a larger spectrum of rodent pest species and partly to the increasing problem of physiological resistance to the older anticoagulants. Resistance of practical importa...
متن کاملEfficacy of rodenticide baits for the control of three invasive rodent species in Hawaii.
We tested the efficacy and palatability of nine commercial rodenticide bait formulations on Polynesian rats (Rattus exulans), roof rats (R. rattus), and house mice (Mus musculus). Efficacy varied by rodenticide tested and rodent species. Generally, rodenticides were more effective against mice than for either of the rat species, and mice tended to consume more rodenticide bait than the laborato...
متن کاملA Review of Rodent Control Programs in New York State
The history of rodent control programs in New York State is reviewed, beginning with state-funded efforts in August, 1967. In 1969, Federal rodent control grant funds were used to establish four Model Cities programs. At its peak in 1970, programs were active in 18 counties, eight cities and villages, and in six Model Cities areas. The program encompasses a l l the major metropolitan areas of t...
متن کاملField Evaluation of Single and Multiple Dose Anticoagulant Rodenticides in Reducing Rodent Populations and Damages in Coconut Plantations
Comparative efficacy of brodifacoum, bromadialone (second-generation single-dose anticoagulant) was evaluated in a coconut crop on Minicoy Island. Preand postrodent control relative levels of rodent populations and damages were recorded as indices for assessing effectiveness of different concentrations and different bait formulations of three rodenticides. The black rat, Rattus rattus (Linnaeus...
متن کاملAN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYETHYLENE GAS PIPES BY THE INCORPORATION OF ANTI-RODENT MASTERBATCHES
The incorporation of several anti-rodent masterbatches into polyethylene (PE) granules used for gas pipes and the effects of the masterbatches on the physical properties of the pipes were studied. Four commercial anti-rodent masterbatches from different international companies including, Clariant, Alchemix, PolyOne, and Newgen were used in this research. Each of the masterbatch was primarily dr...
